Back to Cathedral Peak article   Next set

Jan, proprietor of fivenineclimber, on the summit of Cathedral Peak. This is looking into the hazy reaches of the remote eastern Pasayten Wilderness, where the mountains turn to hills and few folks go. The other direction, to the west gave us a distant view of Baker and Shuksan, and, slightly closer, the Pickets.

A mandatory leap across a rock crevasse is the key to unlocking the descent riddle. It is quite the distance, but sligthly downhill. On the other hand, the ledge you're aiming for is a bit narrow and the wall above wants to bounce you back in the hole. Off course there must be a way to statically do this, since people scrambling up the peak from this side will not be able to do the uphill jump without room for a running start.
