Back to Cathedral Peak article   Next set

The South East Buttress of Cathedral Peak. The alternate start I describe in the article is shown on the dark wall representing the first step. The exposed headwall is the second to last step.

On the left is the steep, foreboding and somewhat confusing looking South Face, home to a supposedly fantastic Becky Route. Or at least Fred thinks its good, according to his guide book.

This is the view greeting you shortly after Apex Pass. Alpine scenery par excellence. After a day and a half of choking on dust deep in the woods, these last miles are just beautiful. Cathedral Peak is the obvious summit 3-4 miles distant. The trail skirts the base right to left and crosses over Cathedral Pass just left of the peak.

Another view of this amazing mountain. The little hump on map named 7761 is the spectacular grey granite wall in the left foreground.
